Our objective with the Introducing Mr.B. books is to make the wonderful work of Robert Burns more accessible to children.
Robert Boyd, a past president of the North American Robert Burns Association said, "The graying of the membership of societies like ours seems irreversible." This is the challenge and we think now is the time for us to reach out and bring Robert Burns to the children. So what's stopping us?
Probably part of the problem is the old Scottish dialect in the poems. To engage the young minds we've chosen to write twelve short stories each inspired and closely aligned with Burns poems. These stories are in plain English, and can be read and enjoyed on their own. With luck the stories may stimulate the question, "Which poems were they based on?" By using the poem and the interpretation at the back of the book the children, with the help of an adult, will be able to explore Robert Burns poems.
To share a sample from the books with you we have added a video at the video page on this site. It features a different story and poem each month.
The books are printed by IngramSpark in England, USA, and Australia. These are good strategic locations to service a large part of the Scottish community at home and spread around the world.
You can buy the books at Waterstone's shops in the UK and Indigo in Canada, and the US. These stores will not stock the books but will order them in for you.
You can buy the books in print and EBook format through Amazon. Postal costs on the print format with Amazon can be eliminated by ordering over their specified amount.
Worksheets are available for teachers and other interested parties but these will only be sent electronically free of charge.
We'd appreciate if you used the message box to let us know how you feel about the books.
